Mutual Funds
Build your financial freedom with mutual funds: a smart way to grow your wealth and achieve your life goals.
What are mutual funds?
A mutual fund collects money from many investors and invests it in a diversified portfolio of stocks, bonds and other securities. A professional fund manager decides what to buy and sell, within the rules set out in the scheme's documents.
You receive units at that day's NAV (net asset value). As the value of the fund's investments rises or falls, so does the value of your units.
Your money goes straight from your bank account to the fund house. Units are held in your name.
Why invest in mutual funds?
Wealth creation
Equity-oriented funds can help your savings grow faster than inflation over long periods.
Professional management
Qualified fund managers research, pick and monitor every investment in the scheme.
Diversification
One scheme spreads your money across many companies, sectors and instruments.
Flexibility
Start with a small SIP, top up, switch or redeem when your needs change.
Transparency
NAVs are published every business day and portfolios are disclosed regularly.
Suitable for all goals
Equity, debt, hybrid and index funds cover short, medium and long-term goals.
Mutual fund investment options
Choose the right type of mutual fund based on your goals, risk appetite and time horizon.
Equity funds
Invest mainly in shares of companies. Higher potential returns over the long term, with more ups and downs along the way. Suit goals five or more years away.
Debt funds
Invest in bonds, government securities and money-market instruments. Relatively lower risk; suit conservative investors and shorter goals.
Hybrid funds
A mix of equity and debt in one scheme, for a balanced approach to risk and return.
ELSS (tax-saving) funds
Equity funds with a three-year lock-in that qualify for a tax deduction under the old tax regime.
Index funds & ETFs
Aim to match a market index such as the Nifty 50. Low cost and transparent.
SIP (Systematic Investment Plan)
Invest a fixed amount regularly. Builds discipline and averages your purchase cost over time.
Lumpsum investment
Invest a larger amount in one go, such as a bonus or maturity proceeds, and let it grow.
Retirement & goal-based funds
Solution-oriented schemes for retirement or children's goals, usually with a five-year lock-in.
Save tax while you invest
Equity Linked Savings Schemes (ELSS) are equity mutual funds that qualify for a tax deduction of up to ₹1.5 lakh a year under the old tax regime. That limit is shared with PPF, life insurance premiums and similar investments.
From 1 April 2026 this deduction sits in Section 123 of the Income-tax Act, 2025, which replaced the familiar Section 80C. It is not available if you file under the new tax regime.
ELSS has the shortest lock-in among these tax-saving options: three years. With an SIP, each monthly instalment is locked for three years from its own date.
