Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about working with us, mutual funds, SIPs and insurance.

Working with us

Are you a financial adviser?

We are an AMFI-registered Mutual Fund Distributor (ARN-367739) and IRDAI registered for insurance distribution. We help you choose and invest in mutual fund schemes and insurance products. Any suggestion we make is part of that distribution service. We are not a SEBI-registered Investment Adviser.

Do I pay you a fee?

The consultation is free. As a distributor, we are paid commission by the mutual fund houses and insurers whose products we distribute.

Mutual fund investments made through a distributor are in Regular Plans, which include this commission in their expense ratio. Direct Plans of the same schemes have a lower expense ratio but come without distributor support.

Is my money safe with you?

Your money never comes to us. Payments go directly from your bank account to the mutual fund house or the insurance company, and units or policies are issued in your name. Never pay any distributor in cash or into a personal account.

How often will you review my portfolio?

We suggest a review at least once a year, and whenever something big changes: a new job, marriage, a child, a home loan or retirement.

Mutual funds & SIP

What do I need to start investing?

A completed KYC: PAN, Aadhaar, a photograph and bank account details. KYC is a one-time process and is valid across all fund houses.

What is the minimum SIP amount?

It depends on the scheme. Many schemes accept SIPs from ₹500 a month, and some from as little as ₹100.

Can I stop or pause my SIP?

Yes. You can pause, change or stop an SIP. Units you have already bought stay invested. An exit load may apply if you redeem units within a scheme's specified period.

How long is the ELSS lock-in?

Three years from the date of each investment. With an SIP, each instalment has its own three-year lock-in.

Are mutual fund returns guaranteed?

No. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and can go down as well as up. Past performance does not guarantee future returns. Read all scheme-related documents carefully.

Insurance

What is the difference between term and savings plans?

A term plan pays only if the insured person dies during the policy term, and gives the highest cover for the premium. Savings and endowment plans combine some cover with saving, so the cover for the same premium is much lower.

How much life cover do I need?

A common starting point is 10 to 15 times your annual income, adjusted for loans and big goals such as children's education. Try our human life value calculator for an estimate based on your own numbers.

What is cashless hospitalisation?

At a network hospital, the insurer settles the bill directly with the hospital after pre-authorisation, so you do not pay the covered amount yourself.

What is a waiting period in health insurance?

Some illnesses and pre-existing conditions are covered only after a waiting period from the start of the policy. The exact periods differ by plan and are listed in the policy wording.

Is motor insurance compulsory?

Yes. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, every vehicle on a public road must have at least third-party insurance. Comprehensive cover also protects your own vehicle.
